How Much We Owe

Ok.  So here's the truth.  Once I get over the shock of it all, I will be better off for showing you.  Plus, it helps to have some accountability, right?  I will be updating numbers as time goes.  I will either do that via this page or my regular posts.  I will keep you posted!  Thanks for reading!

Money Owed to Relatives-  $86,250.00
Credit Cards-  $7,170.63
Vehicles-$40,134.88
Student Loans-$168,747.49
Medical Bills- $1,588.62
Taxes- $14,358.00
Total- $318,249.62

Now it should be noted that this debt took several years to accumulate.  Not to mention 4 degrees between my husband and myself.  But the truth is, there have been several opportunities to pay down this debt and we have CHOSEN not to.  Some reasons were legitimate, others not so much.  Yes we lose sleep at night, Yes it is our fault.  We have strained relationships over this debt.  We are ready to do something about it.  Please continue to read as I post on our journey to get out of this debt.  Questions are welcome.

  1. I pray that are able to get your finances under control! That is quite a lot of debt. Even while you pay your debt, find a credit union or someplace that has a good percentage return and start a savings account. Deposit 20 bucks a paycheck, Or every time you pay your bills, count your savings as a bill. You have to be faithful to it! Best wishes to you, sweetie, Everything will be okay. :) <3

  2. This is very brave and awesome of you to share this journey with people you don't know. My husband and I are also working to get out from some of our debt, and like you I always feel that there have been times we could have eliminated some of it but chose not to. I signed up to follow your journey through facebook. I found you through bloggymoms and left you a message on there. In case you missed it I blog over at http://glennbabies.blogspot.com

You almost encouraged me enough to write my own post about getting in a better financial position but I'm not brave enough to acknowledge even to my family what our debt is but thanks for the encouragement to all of us to move forward with our financial goals.

    1. Thanks, Angela! Part of the reason I decided to do this blog is to be honest with ourselves. It is really easy to continue to shove things under the rug. We've done it for years. It's exhausting.

  3. This was an awesome step to take! While I know it is difficult to share things such as finances with others it is important to be accountable and by putting your goals up for the world to see you are so much more likely to try to reach them.

I know that my health goals aren't as hard to share, or at least shouldn't be, however, it was very difficult for me to take the pictures and share them in the fitness group that I joined. However, by taking before and after pictures I have been able to notice the small changes that keep me motivated enough to not give up.

I hope that by posting this and keeping up with your journey you will slowly notice the changes and stay motivated as well :)

Good luck and I can't wait to keep reading!
